Het monumentale kunstwerk De Zuilen van Rick Koren is nog tot 20 april te zien in de hal van Het Industriegebouw aan de Goudsesingel 66 in Rotterdam. Het is onderdeel van de tentoonstelling 'No Particular Order"
De zuilen zijn opgebouwd uit geperste en gestapelde lagen papier — de gelaagde structuur is op de detailfoto prachtig zichtbaar, bijna als geologische sedimentlagen. De zwarte industriële bouten bovenop geven het werk een rauw, krachtig karakter. Dit is precies het soort werk dat in een industriële entree enorm goed landt. De cyclus van het leven: hout wordt papier, papier wordt weer hout.
The monumental artwork De Zuilen by Rick Koren is on view until April 16 in the hall of Het Industriegebouw at Goudsesingel 66 in Rotterdam. It is part of the exhibition 'No Particular Order'.
The columns are constructed from pressed and stacked layers of paper — the layered structure is beautifully visible in the detail photo, almost like geological sediment layers. The black industrial bolts on top give the work a raw, powerful character. This is exactly the kind of work that lands incredibly well in an industrial entrance. The cycle of life: wood becomes paper, paper becomes wood again.

Polina: ,Door middel van de klassieke methode van het schilderen in lagen streef ik naar een evenwicht met de moderne wereld. Mijn interesse gaat uit naar de barokperiode, omdat er toen een verandering in het menselijk bewustzijn plaatsvond. De barokstijl ontstond aan het begin van een nieuw tijdperk, dat tot op de dag van vandaag voortduurt. Dat moment markeerde een keerpunt in de geschiedenis van de mensheid, de opkomst van industrie, technologie en chemie. Ik gebruik het beeld van de cupido uit de barok, omdat het een mythologisch wezen is dat cultuur en natuur combineert.
Ieder mens wordt geboren als onderdeel van de natuur en wordt pas in de loop van het opgroeien en de opvoeding een mens van zijn tijd. Ik zoek naar overblijfselen uit het oude en mythologische en naar de plek waar culturele en sociale structuren ontstaan.
Ik ben geïnteresseerd in westerse en Slavische mythologie en geloof dat we via oude mythen een verbinding hebben met generaties. Ik probeer de verbinding tussen tijdperken te voelen en een brug door de tijd te slaan.'
Polina: ,I explore the relationship of modern humans to nature.
Through the classical method of painting in layers I seek balance with the modern world. My focus of interest
is on the Baroque period because there was a change in human consciousness. The Baroque style appeared at
the very beginning of the new era, which continues to this day. It was that moment that became a turning point
in the history of humanity, the emergence of industry, technology and chemistry. I use the image of the cubidon
from baroque time because he is the mythological creature that combines culture and nature.
Every person is born a part of nature and only in the course of growing up and education becomes a person
of his time. I’m looking for remaining ancient and mythological and where cultural and social superstructures
begin.
I am interested in Western and Slavic mythology and I believe that through acient myths we have a connection
with generations. I try to feel the connection of eras and build a bridge through time.'

Westerkadekunst is tijdens exposities geopend van vrijdag t/m zondag, van 12 tot 17 uur. Het is mogelijk om buiten deze tijden een afspraak te maken.
