Westerkadekunst exposeert verrassend werk van kunstenaars, die aan het begin van hun carrière staan, maar ook laten we graag ontwikkelingen zien van meer gevestigde namen. Altijd onder de voorwaarde dat er sprake is van een unieke en originele signatuur.
Voor ons moet kunst het hart aanspreken en in de eerste plaats visueel interessant zijn, zonder een uitgebreide toelichting vooraf. Werk dat vragen oproept vinden we aantrekkelijker dan werk dat antwoorden geeft.
We proberen actief ons bereik te verbreden door nieuw publiek aan te trekken. Zo zijn we ervan overtuigd dat er veel mensen zijn die door kunst geraakt worden, zonder dat zij dit beseffen. Het is onze uitdaging om mensen die het kopen van kunst niet in hun systeem hebben, te overtuigen van een aankoop.
De galerie is opgericht in 2017 door Davy Pieters (als Maaskoe Galerie) en is gevestigd in een klassieke pand aan de Maas in het Rotterdamse Scheepvaartkwartier, de gerenommeerde wijk vlakbij het centrum en de belangrijke musea. Gemiddeld organiseren we 10 exposities per jaar, plus een Zomersalon, waar we jonge figuratieve schilders een podium bieden.We exposeren voornamelijk schilderkunst en sculpturen, maar er is ook ruimte voor fotografie, prints, keramiek en installaties. De kunstenaars komen vaak uit Rotterdam en ook uit de rest van het land en mogelijk daarbuiten.
We staan open voor samenwerking en uitwisseling met andere (ook buitenlandse) galeries en willen hiermee meer dynamiek en diversiteit in het kunstaanbod brengen. Hoewel onze focus gericht is op beeldende kunst, hopen we in de toekomst ook aandacht te geven aan mengvormen met andere disciplines als muziek, poëzie, theater en wetenschap.
Westerkadekunst exhibits surprising work by artists who are at the beginning of their careers, but we also enjoy showcasing developments from more established names. The condition is always that there is a unique and original signature present. For us, art should speak to the heart and be visually interesting in the first place, without the need for extensive explanation beforehand. We find work that raises questions more attractive than work that provides answers. We actively strive to broaden our reach by attracting new audiences. We are convinced that there are many people who are touched by art without realizing it. It is our challenge to convince those who don't have buying art in their system to consider making a purchase.
The gallery was founded in 2017 by Davy Pieters (as Maaskoe Gallery) and is located in a classical building on the Maas river in Rotterdam's Scheepvaartkwartier, a renowned neighborhood near the city center and important museums. On average, we organize 10 exhibitions per year, plus a Summer Salon where we provide a platform for young figurative painters. We mainly exhibit painting and sculpture, but there is also space for photography, prints, ceramics, and installations. The artists often come from Rotterdam and other parts of the country, and possibly beyond. We are open to collaboration and exchange with other galleries, including international ones, in order to bring more dynamism and diversity to the art scene. Although our focus is on visual art, we hope to also pay attention to interdisciplinary forms with other disciplines such as music, poetry, theater, and science in the future.

ANBI stichting
Stichting Westerkadekunst is door de belastingdienst aangemerkt als een culturele Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling (ANBI). Zo'n status krijg je alleen als je aan strikte voorwaarden voldoet. Een van die voorwaarden is dat je als Stichting niet als doel hebt het maken van winst. Waar draait het dan wel om: het doel van Westerkadekunst is om kunstenaars die hun werk willen exposeren te faciliteren door expositieruimte ter beschikking te stellen om zo een bijdrage te leveren aan de cultuur in Rotterdam en ruime omstreken.
Als u ook dit doel ondersteunt, dan heeft de belastingdienst een aantal voordelen voor u in petto:
• giften aan een culturele ANBI zijn aftrekbaar van uw inkomen, en u mag voor de aftrek de gift met 1.25 vermenigvuldigen;
• erfstellingen zijn vrijgesteld van successiebelastingen tot 1.5 x het bedrag van de erfstelling.
Stel u doet een gift van 500 Euro, dan levert dat gemiddeld ongeveer de helft belastingvoordeel op. Dus een gift van 500 Euro kost eigenlijke maar de helft ofwel 250 Euro (daarbij gaan wij er wel vanuit dat u nog meer giften doet, zodat u boven de niet aftrekbare drempel van 1% van uw inkomen uitkomt).
Bij erfstellingen is het voordeel zelfs nog groter. Een legaat van stel 1.000 euro aan een culturele ANBI levert gemiddeld 550 Euro belastingvoordeel op, dus netto kost zo'n legaat 450 euro en dat is minder dan de helft.
Het werkelijke belastingvoordeel is natuurlijk afhankelijk van uw persoonlijke situatie.
De Stichting publiceert jaarlijks haar financiÎle gegevens op de website, dus u kunt zien waar uw geld voor gebruikt wordt.
Dus als ook u het doel van onze stichting wil ondersteunen dan helpt de belastingdienst u een handje met de fiscale voordelen. Wie zie ook alweer dat ze het niet leuker konden maken?
ANBI foundation
Stichting Westerkadekunst has been designated by the tax authorities as a cultural Public Benefit Organization (ANBI). This status is granted only if certain strict conditions are met. One of these conditions is that the foundation's purpose should not be to make a profit. So, what is it all about? The goal of Westerkadekunst is to facilitate artists who want to exhibit their work by providing exhibition space, thereby contributing to the culture in Rotterdam and its surrounding areas.
If you also support this goal, the tax authorities have a few benefits in store for you: • Donations to a cultural ANBI are deductible from your income, and you can multiply the deduction by 1.25; • Inheritances are exempt from inheritance taxes up to 1.5 times the amount of the inheritance.
For example, if you make a donation of 500 Euros, it will result in an average tax benefit of about half the amount. So, a donation of 500 Euros actually costs you only half, which is 250 Euros (assuming that you make other donations as well, exceeding the non-deductible threshold of 1% of your income).
The benefit is even greater for inheritances. A bequest of, let's say, 1,000 Euros to a cultural ANBI results in an average tax benefit of 550 Euros. Therefore, the net cost of such a bequest is 450 Euros, which is less than half.
Of course, the actual tax benefit depends on your personal situation. The Foundation publishes its financial information annually on its website, so you can see how your money is being used.

Openingstijden / Opening hours
Westerkadekunst is tijdens exposities geopend van vrijdag t/m zondag, van 12 tot 17 uur. Het is mogelijk om buiten deze tijden een afspraak te maken.
Westerkadekunst is open during exhibitions from Friday to Sunday, from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. If you would like to visit outside these hours, it is possible to make an appointment.
