Westerkadekunst presenteert hedendaagse beeldende kunst van kunstenaars met een eigen, herkenbare signatuur. We tonen zowel nieuw talent als gevestigde kunstenaars die blijven vernieuwen. Niet de carrière, maar de kwaliteit van het werk is ons uitgangspunt. Wij geloven dat kunst zich niet eerst hoeft uit te leggen. Een sterk beeld trekt je aandacht, roept vragen op en blijft hangen. Het raakt iets wat zich niet altijd in woorden laat vatten. Daarom kiezen we voor kunst die uitnodigt tot kijken, ontdekken en opnieuw kijken. We willen de galerie ook openstellen voor mensen die kunst niet vanzelfsprekend als onderdeel van hun leven zien. De ervaring leert dat veel bezoekers verrast worden door hoe direct een kunstwerk kan binnenkomen. Kunst hoeft geen voorkennis te vragen; nieuwsgierigheid is genoeg.
Sinds de oprichting in 2017 door Davy Pieters organiseren we jaarlijks circa tien tentoonstellingen en een Zomersalon voor jonge figuratieve schilders. Onze programmering omvat vooral schilderkunst en sculptuur, aangevuld met fotografie, grafiek, keramiek en installaties. We werken met kunstenaars uit Rotterdam, de rest van Nederland en steeds vaker ook uit het buitenland. Westerkadekunst is gevestigd in een karakteristiek pand aan de Maas, in het Rotterdamse Scheepvaartkwartier. We zien de ruimte als een plek waar kunstenaars, verzamelaars en nieuwsgierige bezoekers elkaar ontmoeten. Samenwerking met andere kunst- en culturele instellingen, in Nederland en daarbuiten, maakt daar vanzelfsprekend deel van uit. Ook zoeken we de verbinding met disciplines als muziek, poëzie, theater en wetenschap, omdat juist op de grens tussen verschillende werelden nieuwe perspectieven ontstaan.
Westerkadekunst presents contemporary visual art by artists with a distinctive and authentic artistic voice. We exhibit both emerging talent and established artists who continue to challenge and redefine their practice. Rather than focusing on careers or reputations, we are guided by the strength and originality of the work itself. We believe that art should not require explanation before it can be experienced. A compelling image captures your attention, raises questions and lingers in the mind. It speaks to something that cannot always be expressed in words. That is why we are drawn to art that invites viewers to look, discover and look again. Our aim is also to make the space welcoming to people who may not see art as a natural part of their everyday lives. Time and again, visitors are surprised by how immediate and personal the experience of an artwork can be. Art does not require prior knowledge—curiosity is enough.
Founded in 2017 by Davy Pieters, Westerkadekunst presents around ten exhibitions each year, alongside an annual Summer Salon dedicated to emerging figurative painters. While our programme focuses primarily on painting and sculpture, it also includes photography, printmaking, ceramics and installation art. We work with artists from Rotterdam and across the Netherlands, while increasingly welcoming artists from abroad. The gallery is housed in a characteristic building overlooking the River Maas, in Rotterdam's historic Scheepvaartkwartier district. We see Westerkadekunst as a place where artists, collectors and curious visitors come together. Collaboration with other art- and cultural institutions, both in the Netherlands and internationally, is an important part of our practice. We also seek dialogue with disciplines such as music, poetry, theatre and science, believing that new perspectives often emerge where different fields intersect.
ANBI stichting
Stichting Westerkadekunst is door de belastingdienst aangemerkt als een culturele Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling (ANBI). Zo'n status krijg je alleen als je aan strikte voorwaarden voldoet. Een van die voorwaarden is dat je als Stichting niet als doel hebt het maken van winst. Waar draait het dan wel om: het doel van Westerkadekunst is om kunstenaars die hun werk willen exposeren te faciliteren door expositieruimte ter beschikking te stellen om zo een bijdrage te leveren aan de cultuur in Rotterdam en ruime omstreken.
Als u ook dit doel ondersteunt, dan heeft de belastingdienst een aantal voordelen voor u in petto:
• giften aan een culturele ANBI zijn aftrekbaar van uw inkomen, en u mag voor de aftrek de gift met 1.25 vermenigvuldigen;
• erfstellingen zijn vrijgesteld van successiebelastingen tot 1.5 x het bedrag van de erfstelling.
Stel u doet een gift van 500 Euro, dan levert dat gemiddeld ongeveer de helft belastingvoordeel op. Dus een gift van 500 Euro kost eigenlijke maar de helft ofwel 250 Euro (daarbij gaan wij er wel vanuit dat u nog meer giften doet, zodat u boven de niet aftrekbare drempel van 1% van uw inkomen uitkomt).
Bij erfstellingen is het voordeel zelfs nog groter. Een legaat van stel 1.000 euro aan een culturele ANBI levert gemiddeld 550 Euro belastingvoordeel op, dus netto kost zo'n legaat 450 euro en dat is minder dan de helft.
Het werkelijke belastingvoordeel is natuurlijk afhankelijk van uw persoonlijke situatie.
De Stichting publiceert jaarlijks haar financiële gegevens op de website, dus u kunt zien waar uw geld voor gebruikt wordt.
Dus als ook u het doel van onze stichting wil ondersteunen dan helpt de belastingdienst u een handje met de fiscale voordelen. Wie zie ook alweer dat ze het niet leuker konden maken?
ANBI foundation
Stichting Westerkadekunst has been designated by the tax authorities as a cultural Public Benefit Organization (ANBI). This status is granted only if certain strict conditions are met. One of these conditions is that the foundation's purpose should not be to make a profit. So, what is it all about? The goal of Westerkadekunst is to facilitate artists who want to exhibit their work by providing exhibition space, thereby contributing to the culture in Rotterdam and its surrounding areas.
If you also support this goal, the tax authorities have a few benefits in store for you: • Donations to a cultural ANBI are deductible from your income, and you can multiply the deduction by 1.25; • Inheritances are exempt from inheritance taxes up to 1.5 times the amount of the inheritance.
For example, if you make a donation of 500 Euros, it will result in an average tax benefit of about half the amount. So, a donation of 500 Euros actually costs you only half, which is 250 Euros (assuming that you make other donations as well, exceeding the non-deductible threshold of 1% of your income).
The benefit is even greater for inheritances. A bequest of, let's say, 1,000 Euros to a cultural ANBI results in an average tax benefit of 550 Euros. Therefore, the net cost of such a bequest is 450 Euros, which is less than half.
Of course, the actual tax benefit depends on your personal situation. The Foundation publishes its financial information annually on its website, so you can see how your money is being used.
So, if you also want to support the goal of our foundation, the tax authorities are there to lend a hand with these fiscal benefits. Who was it again that said they couldn't make it any better?

Openingstijden / Opening hours
Westerkadekunst is tijdens exposities geopend van vrijdag t/m zondag, van 12 tot 17 uur. Het is mogelijk om buiten deze tijden een afspraak te maken.
Westerkadekunst is open during exhibitions from Friday to Sunday, from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. If you would like to visit outside these hours, it is possible to make an appointment.
